Sporting brand new team singlets, a large group of athletes from the PCH athletics team braved bitter cold conditions at the Claddagh in Galway today for the South Connaught Schools Cross Country Championships.

The team didn’t have to wait long for success as Leah Toher (1st year), who competes for Ballinrobe AC in club competitions, comfortably took gold in the minor girls category; the first race of the day.

With athletes competing across all age categories, further successes came throughout the day, with around 10 athletes qualifying for the Connaught Finals, to be held in Sligo in the coming weeks.

Many thanks to the athletes who put up with the event being postponed twice over the past few weeks due to inclement weather and who exemplified the PCH team spirit thoughout the day; encouraging team mates during their races in the bitterly cold wind.
