UGMUN 2026
Well done to our senior debating team who took part in the Galway Model United Nations (MUN) conference in the University of Galway last week. Naoise Galligan, Aígréne Harttung McCabe, Jack Hernon, Colm O’Neill Shannon Scully from fifth year, and Chloe Donnelly, Marek Klimkowski, Olwen Morrissey and Rachel Whyte from Transition Year all participated in the three-day event which was organised by the university’s Literary and Debating Society and attended by pupils and teachers from across the country.
During the conference, students assumed the roles of country representatives at the United Nations, discussing global problems, negotiating international relations and resolving real-world international issues, keeping in mind the values and ideals of their assigned nations. It offered students a fantastic opportunity to deepen their understanding of current political and human rights issues and develop their skills in teamwork, critical thinking and in formulating and articulating complex arguments.
The students were all deeply engaged in their work in committees and plenary sessions over the three days. The event was also great fun and provided an opportunity to make new friends. Well done to all on our PCH team – you did yourselves, your families and your school proud! And special congratulations to our award winners: Naoise (Best Delegate, Legal Council), Aígréne (Best Position Paper, Legal Council), Shannon (Best Position Paper, Disarmament and International Security Committee), Jack (Honourable Mention, Special Political and Decolonisation Committee) and Colm (Best Delegate, Economic and Financial Committee).
