Stripe Young Scientist Exhibition

Huge congratulations to our students who exhibited projects at the Stripe Young Scientist Exhibition last week and to their teachers Ms. Halleran and Mr. Toner for their unwavering support and encouragement. The participants were as follows:

Eve Kennedy: “Memory Metal Crumple Zones”
This was a study of the potential for using shape memory metals in the crumple zones of cars. Shape memory metals can be deformed but then go back to their original shape when heated.

Eve won the Airnav Engineering Award

Ailbhe Hartnett and Sophie McKenna: “A Poor Woman’s Telescope in This Economy”
Large telescopes are very expensive (>€1000) and this project aimed to use cheap materials and a novel design to create very large telescopes for €100 – €200.

Ailbhe and Sophie claimed third prize in the Junior Group Technology category.

The other two projects were…

Matthew Daly: “Using modern AI models to analyse legacy data from Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes”

and

Johnathan McPhilbin: “Fair or Foul”

Both of the lads have won prizes before at previous years’ competitions.
