This introductory video on Transition Year in PCH was prepared by our TY Coordinator, June Burke.

The school operates an optional Transition Year programme for students who have completed their Junior Cycle education. This one-year educational programme offers the potential for the holistic development of young people as flexible learners, active citizens and future workers. It places an emphasis on personal development, social awareness and increased social competence. Students taking this option are given the chance to follow a school-developed course of study without the pressure of State examinations, including the following modules:

Irish, English, Maths, Modern Foreign Languages, Integrated Science, Art, Home Economics, Music, Physical Education, Drama, Religion, Enterprise/Mini Company, Business, Road Safety, Public Speaking, Information Technology, Guidance, Personal Development, Work Experience, BT Young Scientist Exhibition, Health Education (incorporating Relationships and Sexuality Education – RSE)

Work experience is a central part of the programme as are the many extra-curricular activities and outings in which the students participate.

Numbers are limited and determined annually by the BOM. Admissions criteria for TY is a priority for review as part of a review of our whole school Admission’s Policy.
