Project 1: Design and Develop a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) using recycled laptop batteries that can be used to backup domestic appliances
Students: Gearóid Halleran and Daire Hanrahan, 2nd year
Description: This project aims to use recycled batteries from old laptops to create a device that connects between mains power and a domestic appliance. This will allow the device (e.g. a fridge) to continue to run in the event of a power cut.
Project 2: A faster method of finding micrometeorites
Student: Freya Phillips
Description: Micrometeorites are microscopic pieces of space dust that fall on Earth all of the time. Their microscopic size makes them hard to find. This project uses a flatbed scanner and a computer program to help find micrometeorites, significantly speeding up the process of finding them.
