Our School Community Dog, Yaida, joins us tomorrow morning!
Meet Yaida – our new member of staff, and our School Community Dog. She is a twenty two month old Labrador Retriever cross. Yaida comes to us from the Irish Guide Dogs in Cork under the relatively new initiative of placing working dogs in school communities throughout the country.
We welcome Yaida into our school because-
- She can provide a source of inspiration to motivate pupils and bring joy, happiness, love, fun and a sense of awe and wonder into our school community especially after the difficulties in learning brought about through the Covid pandemic
- Yaida can provide therapeutic benefits that support mental health, emotional wellbeing and social and emotional development
- Yaida offers pupils the opportunity to learn that animals, like humans can communicate their needs without using words. For example Yaida can communicate when she is feeling anxious, playful or bemused
- Yaida will routinely undertake regular health checks, vaccines and necessary treatment. She will work with individual children, groups and classes and will always be under strict adult control and supervision
We are aware that some pupils may have phobias or allergies to dogs. Any parent who does not want their child to interact with Yaida will have their wishes respected
