1st year girls soccer

On a blustery, fresh day PCH 1st year girls took on a strong Davitt College team. These girls have developed into a lovely team with strong leadership from our team captain, Katie Farragher. They are a team that talk to each other, encourage each other and support each other.
Our goalkeeper, Katie G, had plenty to do today and Davitts came close on a few occasions. Katie was supported extremely well by our solid back line which included Chloe K, Sophie G, Ruth O’ Brien and Grace Mongey. All four had an impressive game; working hard and making life difficult for the opposition’s attack. Ruth guided and talked to her defensive team and this made all the difference. In the 1st half, PCH played against the wind but Roisin S still managed to slot in a goal Lily and Hannah worked tirelessly on the wings with Lily taking some really great corners. Clodagh and Katie F were terrific in centre-mid with Katie coming close on many occasions until finally in the 2nd half her efforts were rewarded with a fine goal that showed what perseverance does. Both Sophie D and Roisin made Davitt’s life hard up front, as did Emily and Megan when they were brought on.
Final score was 2-0 – a hard-earned victory but one that showed the girls’ spirit and determination.
Thanks to our TY mentors who are developing their coaching skills in every match.
Connacht final V Athlone will be held away on Monday 23rd May.
Well done to Ms Hopkins, Ms Carey and the TY mentors, everyone is looking forward to the final!
