1st year girls soccer final

“A cracker of a game”
“Unreal soccer on display”
“Nobody deserved to lose”
These were some of the many comments made by spectators after a wonderful game of soccer that demonstrated incredible talent at this level.
Monday 23rd May saw PCH 1st year girls travel to Athlone to play a Connacht Final v Colaiste Chiarain Athlone.
Unfortunately, it was not to be and the girls lost out on bringing yet another cup home by the smallest of margins.
Losing 3-1 with 5 minutes to go before half time, the girls pulled on all their resilience and determination to end the first half 3-3. Athlone were certainly not expecting it to be this hard – especially as we had lost our only game to them in the first game of the season. This time round, PCH had captain Katie Farragher playing (injury had prevented her from playing the first game).
The girls played their hearts out and when the final whistle blew, it was 4 -4.
Extra time ensued – game ended with victory going to Athlone: 6-5.
Goals were scored by Lily, Roisin and a hat-trick by Katie F.
So many fantastic performances today but special mentions to Clodagh K who, as always, did Trojan work in the centre of the field and Chloe K and Sophie G who were incredible in defence against a fast, attacking Athlone side.
In addition, Sophie Diamond played a blinder and Katie F played another outstanding game with top class free kicks. Lily’s corners were unlucky not to end in a couple of goals.
This is a tremendous team who have only begun their PCH soccer journey.
Thanks to Shannon for some of the photos taken and to our dedicated TY mentors, Louise, Grace, Seàn, Gusi and Evan.
Thanks to all the supporters who made their voices heard and encouraged the girls throughout.
Ms. Carey and Ms. Hopkins have enjoyed and are proud of this entire group of young people.
Sincere thanks to Ms Carey & Ms Hopkins for all their work with this squad.
