Our under 14 girls’ football squad had a very convincing win over Balla in their second championship game. With all eyes on The Sportsground in Galway, PCH U-14 girls travelled to Balla under the radar, looking to back up their first-round championship win over Ballinrobe and they did just that, coming away with a convincing victory. With Balla scoring fifteen goals in their first game, we were wary of our opponents but we dominated from the start and had a commanding lead at halftime. Alison Fahy and Katie Farragher were unavailable for the first game but made up for lost time, kicking our first five scores between them. In what was a very physical game, Balla looked dangerous when attacking but our defence, with Emma Heneghan and Niamh Higgins in top form, did brilliantly to hold them to just three scores in either half. Ruth O Brien Alisha O Malley, Roisin Sweeney, Ava Bohan, Lily Jacques, and Alanna Curry also got their names on the scoresheet in that half.                                                                                          All nine available subs were on the pitch by early in the second half and contributed to a dominant performance. Subs Róise Murtagh and Emily Kelleghan brought to ten the number of players that scored for us. The girls have two group games left, at home to Sancta Maria College, Louisburgh and Mount St Michael, Claremorris in late March/early April, and are in pole position to reach the knockout stages of the Connacht championship.
